Each tiny seed planted becomes a tree that nourishes us all.

Our First Grant!

We’re beyond thrilled and grateful that on May 28th the 100 Women of Whistler voted for ROCKS to receive their Q2 grant of $15,400. With this grant—ROCKS’ first ever—we’re now in a position to start hosting community meals in borrowed kitchen/dining areas, such as that offered by our partner, Zero Ceiling.

For those unfamiliar with the 100 Women of Whistler’s format, they’re like a very friendly, very gentle Dragon’s Den where non-profits pitch their projects to local women who ensure their donations are going towards worthy causes. We’re honoured to be chosen, and heartened by this demonstration that our vision of a community kitchen is broadly shared within Whistler—an important endorsement going forward. A thousand thanks to the 100 Women of Whistler for their enthusiasm and support.

Once again the Pique has been a great support getting the word out for us and have run this article, sharing the amazing news with our community.

Volunteers Needed

Want to be part of something new, purposeful, fun, and ultimately big?  We need volunteers ready to spring into action—chefs, prep cooks, servers, logistics people, and more.  Each communal dinner will serve 100 meals in just a few hours, so we’ll need around 10 people to help set up, cook, and serve. Behind the scenes, we’re looking for volunteers with social media expertise, and volunteers with the background to help us ‘rescue’ food and source used equipment. There are so many ways to get involved!  Sounds like fun right? sign up here.

Have Extra Food, Storage or Space?

FOOD: While our primary purpose is to alleviate food insecurity within Whistler, we also aim to be environmental stewards, sourcing our food locally and wherever possible rescuing food that would be otherwise tossed.  So if you have any excess food, pretty please reach out and we’ll come pick it up and cook it up at one of our upcoming communal dinners.

STORAGE: Any lendable freezer, fridge, or shelf space could make a huge difference to our food recovery efforts, and to what we can offer our diners.  It can be temporary or long term, we’re flexible.

SPACE: A reminder that until we find our ‘forever home’, we’ll consider renting temporary premises.  If you know of any landlord who wants to rent space to an organization of huge benefit to the Whistler community, please help us connect.  Remember that our status as a registered charity means that a landlord may be able to get a tax credit for renting us space.

Sharing is Caring

The whistler-rocks.ca website is ticking along, it looks great, but it is still important to get the word out. Please share the website, check out our instagram: whistler_rocksand tell your friends!  Help us celebrate out new charitable status by donating  through Canada Helps, or through our new page on Charitable Impact.
