Save the Date – We Have 1,000 Meals to Serve!

After a long search for a temporary home for our community kitchen, we’re thrilled to

announce our very first events at the fantastic Whistler Mountain Ski Club (WMSC), 2028 Rob Boyd Way, Creekside.  All events will be on a Monday and we are excited to host!  Our initial dates are as follows:

Sept 22, 4-6pm: Volunteer Meet and Greet at WMSC

Sept 29, 6-9.30pm Community Dinner at WMSC

Oct 27, 6-9.30pm Community Dinner at WMSC

Nov 17, 6-9.30pm Community Dinner at WMSC

Once we get going, we’ll book a whole calendar of meals that we’ll share through our events page, newsletters and through local contacts.

The Whistler Mountain Ski Club has it all: a central Creekside location, nearby free parking, accessibility on public transit, a spacious kitchen, a serving counter, a beautiful dining area seating 40 people at a time, and a little extra space for mingling. It’s wheelchair accessible too. Thank you so much to WMSC for welcoming us and for offering us such a generous and community-minded rate!

As a registered charity, Whistler ROCKS is able to host these dinners free of charge to Whistler residents who need it.  Those joining us for a fun community experience are also welcome, and can donate as they choose (suggested donation of $10), to pay it forward for our next meals.

At our community dinners, we accept donations in cash, through Square/tap, or email transfer to whistler.recreate@gmail.com. Dinner guests, thank you in advance for your generous support of Whistler’s community kitchen!  If you need a donation receipt, just reach out.

Call for Volunteers – Become a ROCKStar!

Our Sept 22 Volunteer Meet and Greet is for anyone interested in volunteering with us in any capacity, either at these first community dinners or later, down the road. We’re excited to meet you, share our plans, answer your questions, and hear your own genius ideas!  We’ll hold this orientation at the Whistler Mountain Ski Club, so you can get a feel for the event.

For each of our community dinners, we’re looking for:

  • Drivers to pick up that day’s food. Shift 3pm to 5:30pm

  • Prep & Cooking team, to unload, set up the dining area, prep and cook food, check in guests, and serve meals. Shift 4pm to 7pm.  Within this shift, we also need a Head Chef with FoodSafe certification and experience overseeing kitchen staff.

  • A Closing team, to take over guest check in, serving, cooking, clean up, and pack up. Shift 6:30pm to 10pm.

All volunteers are welcome to join us for a meal before or after their shifts.

If you’d like to volunteer at any of our upcoming community dinners, please sign up here using Vome.  Note we are trialling a Canadian owned platform called Vome to streamline our admin work, so please be patient with us as we learn to use it.  You’ll need to create a profile so we can keep in touch with you before, during and after your shifts.  If you run into problems, simply email us and we’ll help you get set up.

Seeking Used Kitchen Equipment Donations

If you have an item to donate or know of a commercial kitchen in the process of upgrading equipment, please contact us at whistler.recreate@gmail.com.  We’re seeking donations of:

  • Instapots/rice cookers/crock pots

  • Sheet pans

  • Extra-large/commercial grade pots and skillets

  • Bain marie or food serving dishes

  • Serving utensils

Bulk Food Donations

We now have a small freezer and a modest amount of storage space for receiving food donations. If you have extra bulk food that is not suitable for the Food Bank, please contact us at whistler.recreate@gmail.com, and if we have space, we’ll come pick it up.

Word of Mouth is Powerful – Please Share

To maximize our impact, we want these events to be well attended by those who need it most, Whistler Locals.  So if you’re a Whistler business owner, please share details of this event with your staff—they’re among the people we hope to serve.  Simply share this invitation via email or print for your staff.

Got a Great Recipe?

Do you have a best-loved recipe for a cheap and cheerful dish for a crowd?   If so, send it to us and get some great street cred!  We’ll publish all our menus ahead of time and feature locals’ favourite recipes on our menu page.

Thanks for sharing our excitement! We look forward to connecting soon.
