Whistler R.O.C.K.S Newsletter
Where did winter go… did it ever really arrive? Spring has sprung, we’ve got new volunteers, new plans and finally applied for Charitable status!
Application Sent for Charitable Status, Phew!
After loads of advice, guidance and information gathering, we have finally submitted our application. When charitable status is granted (positive thoughts!), it will open us up to apply for many grants and other funding sources, plus provide a receipt to large donations, so it’s mutually beneficial. This process will take many, many months but you have to start somewhere. A huge thanks to all the non-profit people who have helped me with advice, guidance and sanity checks over the past year – Claire & Shannon from Whistler Community Foundation, David & Mei from WB Foundation, Jackie & Lisa from WCSS and Carol & Mei from Whistler 360 Health. I’m very grateful for our community!
Summer Activities Planned
We are planning 2 pop up events over the summer, to demonstrate the need for a community kitchen in Whistler. Our target audience would be the hundreds of locals who love eating great food! The purpose of the pop-up community dinner is to serve a low-cost meal to the Whistler community while simultaneously alleviating food waste and fostering community connection. If you have an idea for where we can host these 2 dinners, let us know. Our current ideas are a park and a local space with a kitchen. Volunteers, get ready to cook! We’ll be in touch when we have more solid plans.
New Volunteers
A warm welcome to Gail Banning and Ann Franssen, new volunteers to our team. They are both enthusiastic to help us with our vision, we appreciate them already, we set them up with tasks and they are on the case! If you, or someone you know wants to become part of something fun, big and purposeful, then have them sign up here.
Accommodation Needed
A reminder that we’re still looking for our ‘forever home’, but will also consider temporary locations. We can start commercial lease negotiations subject to funding and charitable status, but need some help getting this set up. Please continue to reach out if you have any ideas. We’ve followed up with all suggestions and have a few on our radar, but are still looking for just the right one.
Sharing is Caring
The whistler-rocks.ca website is ticking along, it looks great, but it is still important to get the word out. So share out the website for us, check out our instagram: whistler_rocks and tell your friends!
Donations Update
Our total funds continue to be $1,887 which is 1.8% of our total goal. So no news (or donations) is still good news – we aren’t spending it. If you are connected to a local business who are looking into their 2024 donation applicants, please put us on the list.
Got thoughts, worries, or genius ideas? Throw ’em our way!
